What Express Entry is
Express Entry is the points-based system Canada introduced in January 2015 to manage permanent residence applications from skilled workers. It selects candidates for three economic immigration programmes.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). For skilled workers with foreign experience in managerial, professional, technical or skilled trade jobs. You must meet the criteria for education, work experience, language and adaptability.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). For tradespeople with experience in eligible skilled trades. You need a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification from a Canadian province or territory.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC). For people with at least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada on a temporary permit.
How to apply
- Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). If you studied outside Canada, an ECA shows your qualifications are equivalent to Canadian ones. We help you obtain it.
- Language test. Prove your English or French. For the FSWP, the minimum is CLB 7, which is about IELTS 6.0 in each skill. The TEF is used for French. Results must be less than two years old when you apply.
- Express Entry profile. We create your online profile with your age, education, work experience and language scores, and calculate your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Once submitted, you join the Express Entry pool.
- Invitation to Apply (ITA). If your profile is selected in a draw, you receive an ITA and we prepare your full application for permanent residence.
