Study in Canada

World-class universities, work rights while you study and a route to permanent residence after you graduate. We support you from course selection to study permit.

Why study in Canada

  • World-class education. Globally recognised qualifications, with research at the heart of graduate study.
  • Good value. Tuition is affordable compared with many other study destinations.
  • Research funding. Strong research ideas can earn scholarships.
  • A path to PR. Canadian study and work experience earn points in Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Programs.
  • Campus life. Lively, multicultural campuses.
  • Work rights. Work while you study, then apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Typical eligibility

  • Grades. Usually at least 50% from a UGC or AICTE recognised university for postgraduate programmes.
  • Year gaps. Your degree should be completed in the standard time, without gap years.
  • Backlogs. Generally no more than 10 backlogs during your degree.

Requirements vary by institution. We check yours against each shortlisted programme.

Courses and intakes

Popular options include MBA, master’s, B.Tech, diploma and bachelor’s programmes. Canadian institutions have three intakes:

  • Fall. Starts in September. The main intake.
  • Winter. Starts in January.
  • Summer. Starts in April or May, for a limited number of programmes.

Apply six to nine months before your intake. Admissions and scholarships get more competitive closer to the deadline.

Working while you study

International students can work on or off campus part-time during term and full-time during scheduled breaks, within the limits set by IRCC. Co-op and internship programmes include work placements.

After you graduate

Graduates of eligible programmes of at least eight months can apply for a PGWP, an open work permit. Its length depends on the length of your programme, up to three years. Canadian work experience then counts towards Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Programs.
