How a Dubai work permit works
A Dubai work permit is usually called an employment visa. Your employer sponsors it, and it is a legal requirement for working in the UAE. Eligibility depends on your profession, your qualifications and the needs of the job market.
Step by step
- Job offer. You need a valid offer from a company registered in Dubai or the UAE.
- Labour approval. Your employer gets approval from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
- Entry permit. Your employer applies for an entry permit so you can travel to the UAE.
- Medical check-up. Required after you arrive, as part of the visa process.
- Emirates ID. You apply for the mandatory identity card for UAE residents.
- Residence visa. Your employer arranges residence visa stamping in your passport.
- Work contract. You sign your employment contract with your Dubai employer.
- Bank account. With your residence visa and Emirates ID, you can open a local bank account.
- Renewal. Work permits are issued for a fixed period and must be renewed before they expire.
